Due to many years of experience driving/buying/selling/repairing all the U.S. versions of the VW TDIs, we believe these 96-97 Passats are the BEST.

The Best Body..... These 96-7 Passat TDIs are the only Passat TDI Wagon built on a large Audi chassis, built in Germany at the Audi Plant and ALL are "Wolfsburg Editions". This is the LARGEST VW Wagon ever built with more interior room that anyVW passenger car. Very HIGH Quality---they cost around $24,000 when new in 1996....quite a bit of money for a car in 1996.

The Best TDI Engine...... These have the version of the 1.9 Turbo Diesel engine (the European version) with very little emission control equipment. The production numbers were so low they were officially classified as "experimental" by the EPA so they got in under the radar of the EPA... that's why they run SOoooo GOOD, last SOoooo Long and get better mileage than ANY other TDI (We know of several with over 500,000 miles and one with 661,00 miles and still going strong).



The Best Transmission....... These 96 Passat TDIs have a special transmission with strong synchros, oversized gears and a high speed 4th and 5th to help the car get the 50+ Miles per gallon. These unique transmissions are known to be the strongest and best VW ever made.

Largest Fuel Tank..... These 96 Passat TDI Wagons have a 25 Gallon fuel tank!! This will take the Wagon a whopping 1200 miles on a tank of fuel!! The largest fuel tank of any car ever sold in America. (We can also install an extra 18 gallon tank that will give the Wagon a total fuel capacity of 43 gallons which will take the Wagon around 2100 - 2200 miles!) 

We find that many of our buyers for these "B4V" Passats are folks who used to own one, then moved on to newer VW TDIs. Their dissatisfaction with the newer TDIs smog junk laden engines, poor mileage and mediocre handling brings them back to the GREATEST TDI of all, the 96-97 Passat. In the 20 year US history of the VW Passat (1990-2010) the legendry 1.9 turbo diesel engine was ONLY available in 1996 and 1997. Only 980 of the 96 Passat TDI Wagons (5500 96-7 Passat TDI Sedans) were sold in the U.S. The Passat Wagon “B4V” body, 96-97 was the largest VW wagon ever made with more interior room than the newer Passats, but they DO get up to 50 MILES PER GALLON and 1200 MILES PER TANK! All of these rare 96-97 Passat TDIs are built in GERMANY and are“Wolfsburg Editions” (All the VW Jettas are now built in Mexico). These 96-97 Passat TDIs have less emission control junk on the engine which produces more power and better mileage than the newer TDIs. Bio-Diesel ready. War Not Necessary! 

Everybody seems to be curious where and how we are able to locate these rare limited production 1996 Passat TDI wagons. We can tell you we spend a great deal of time and effort in our quest to find them. They come from all over the U.S., mostly southern states. These are all original factory 1996 Passat TDI Wagons. They are not converted gasoline wagons. They are ALL of the ORIGINAL 980 SOLD IN THE U.S. These all have clean titles, not wrecked TDI Wagons from Southern States. ALL these rare TDI Wagons are processed through our shop where they get extensive upgrades and restoration work to properly prepare them for their new owners.
